Giving my life to Jesus and coming back to God, made me realize that I came back to God for the wrong reasons.
God quickly began to work in me and through me, but there were still sins that I continued doing. What I did not bargain for was that I was going to have to do some of the work???? What? You mean saying the sinner’s prayer, reading my word and singing my heart out to gospel music was not enough?? Nope!! In fact, the enemy came in and busted all my little bubbles, pulled the rug from under me and all those other sayings - basically my some of my true intentions were exposed early on. Matthew 15:8 “These people draw near to me with their mouths and honor me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.”
I was saying all the right things, trying to let go of my past sin, all the while backsliding like crazy and still trying to remain honorable in the sight of God. I was a lazy believer, while I was not where I could be, I was still not where I should be. I was LUKEWARM! And we all know how Jesus feels about being a lukewarm believer! I lied to myself thinking that as easy as it was for me to sin , defile myself, hurt others, touch things I had not business touching that I would be able to put some things down and remain on the fence with God cause once again I was deceived by the enemy thinking : Well I’m not doing everything I used to do so God knows my heart and I’m going to keep trusting God for my change.”
Let me pause right here because I want to share some hard truths:
1. Every problem you have is not going to just go away once you get saved.
2. Sometimes you will continue to struggle with sin even though you are following God.
3. Satan is not going to just leave you alone, in fact if you are really trying to change your ways and live righteously, he is going to attack you
4. It will feel like things were worse now than they were when you were sinning.
5. You will question if this was the right choice and whether you are even capable of living a holy life (not perfect; holy) I will explain the difference.
6. You may backslide after having made a lot of progress and want to go back to your old ways.
7. People who you were once close with will began to act up (become on assignment for the enemy and some will leave your life altogether.
This list can go on and on, but I wanted to share a few things that many of believers have experienced. It is not glamourous, always peaceful, or as easy as some would like to make it seem. Matthew 16:24 “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” Or 1 Peter 4:12 “Beloved thing it not strange concerning the fiery trial, which is to try you as though some strange thing happened to you.”
What does it really mean to follow Jesus and what you may experience:
1. The enemy will do everything to convict you, shame you, scare you, frustrate you and confuse you into turning away from God.
2. People from your past and present will question you and attempt to remind you of your old self and the things you used to do.
3. There will be periods of testing that seem like they will never end and a lot of these trials will cause you to be isolated at times and almost feel like you are abandoned.
4. There will be many times you have to “take the high road “as they say. Not be the road, let me be clear!
5. You may start to become angry and bitter with God, because you feel punished for trying to do the right thing.
So, the word of God tells us “You will know them by their fruit “ It is easy to love God and worship him when everything is going well. We will all have that “church glow” and talk about the goodness of God when God is doing everything we want, answering our prayers, delivered us out of trouble, not holding us to the level of accountability that he could or when we want to quote scripture that makes up feel good and worst of all when we seek God for convenience rather genuine servitude and relationship.
No one can live a perfect life, it's impossible but a holy life is possible, it doesn't mean we don't sin. It means we don't sin and keep doing the same sin, we repent and then we take the steps whether it be fasting and or prayer to break the yoke of that sin . ( I know that sounded so simple and textbook, while I do know first-hand it does not always go down like this ... I also know Nothing is Impossible with God!
The fact is God is Good!!! All right you all know the next part!!! (If you do not ......you will learn today!) God is Good! All the time God is Good! The problem is not in him; it is our expectations of him, when he has already done so much for us even when we are not necessarily deserving of the gifts. So how do we move out of the space of using God for convenience, struggling to take the accountability that is needed (repentance) for God to fully renew us, be consistent in how we worship Jesus and accept the calling and ALL THAT COMES WITH IT?
This is where understanding and discerning what our assignment is as children of Jesus Christ and what the assignment of those that serve the enemy is. If we gain knoweldge of what the call is we will know how to answer every time!!!
Thank you for reading and being a part of this testimony. “Revelation 12:11 And they overcame the enemy by the blood of the lamb and by the word of our testimony and loved not their lives unto death.”
My one hope is that through my testimony someone is encouraged, increases in the spirit of discernment, is delivered from every trap the enemy sets, step into the authority Jesus sacrificed his life for and be reminded you are not the only one!
